Abstract

The linguistic category of definiteness and indefiniteness is fundamental in understanding how languages encode information about the referential status of nouns. In the Kyrgyz language, a member of the Turkic language family, the expressions of definiteness and indefiniteness differ significantly from those in Indo-European languages. This thesis explores the structural, semantic, and pragmatic aspects of definiteness and indefiniteness in Kyrgyz. It examines their linguistic representation, contextual usage, and implications for syntax and discourse.
